Binjai City - Pondok Surya highlight culinary

BINJAI CITY

Binjai City is an independent city in the North Sumatra province of Indonesia, and bordered by Deli Serdang Regency to the East, and Langkat Regency to the West. Binjai is also a highway pass to Banda Aceh Province.

Binjai City is situated by 2 Malay Kingdom, The Deli and The Langkat. Binjai City grew from a small village on the edge of Bingei River. According to both oral and written accounts of the history of the area, Binjai City was a site where traditional ceremonies were held to lay the foundations to the small village in the shade of a large Binjai Tree at the Edge of the Bingai River, which flows into the Wampu River, which is navigable for a large portion of its length.

Arround the tree were built several houses, which gradually enlarge, until finally a village hall was built. A lively port also developed, visited by barges from Stabat, Tanjung Pura and Strait of Malacca. Over time, the Binjai tree gave its name to the growing city.

This is the Entrance Gate from Medan City to Binjai City

After you travel arround 10 minutes, you will reach the heart of Binjai City with this statue as the landmark.

10 minutes near Binjai Landmark statue, you can visit "Pondok Surya", this small restaurant located along side the river. Pretty hard to find for the first time but, you can just ask local people for direction if you don't want to get lost.

here is one of the best menu in this place, The Tahu Balik. What is Tahu Balik? Its a Fried Tofu filled with Chicken Meat. Maybe you'll ask me "what's Balik (turn a round) means here?", nah... this Fried Tofu, is fried at the front side for the first process, then they cut to half and turn it inside out, fill with the Chicken meat, then fried once more, so.. it will felt so crisp inside and outside.

Beside the well known Tahu Balik of Pondok Surya, you should try the Indomie Kangkung Belacan (Kale Blacan Indomie). This menu is also well known here. Other menu is Mie Soup, Fried Bakso and in this place you can ask the Jumbo Size drink instead of normal size.

After a lunch here, we walk through the Taman Merdeka Binjai which placed infront of the Binjai City Hall.

Nothing really special here at day, just a normal park. but there's a lot of activities at night (mostly local culinary).

As You may know, Binjai City is a transit point to Famous Bukit Lawang at Gunung Leuser National Park, an important site for the conservation of the Red Orang Utan. to reach here, you should travel arround 60 - 80 minutes (+/- 70 km) from Binjai City.

At this Opportunity, I didn't visit the Bukit Lawang, so I will skip the Bukit Lawang topic today, and I promise to discuss about it later :)

Happy Culinary and Traveling
